SYNOPSIS
On a blazing mid August day the Balduina neighbourhood in the north of Rome seems deserted, just like in the opening scene of Dino Risi's classic "Il Sorpasso", when the suburb had just been built. While everybody else has escaped to the beach, four siblings over ninety stay behind in their shaded apartments on Via San Cipriano, Emilia, Benedetta, Elide and Augusto. They built their house as a cooperative during the 1950ies boom, with the help of generous state subsidies. It was their ticket into the middle class. Husbands and wives have since passed away, the children moved out long ago. When Emilia's granddaughter shows up for an unexpected visit, past and present blend together over co-living situations and memories well kept.

"Via San Cipriano explores the social dynamics between siblings in a Roman suburb, and at the same time portrays a fading generation of 20th-century-women. Tracing my own roots at my grandmother's place in the Eternal City, I explore the common threads between female narratives 70 years apart from each other."
REVIEWS

Olhares do Mediterraneo: "for the elegance ..., the dignity with which it looks at ageing, ...for its ability of touching sensitive issues without losing an empathic tone, for the strength with which it works spaces..."
